Built by a Contractor, for Contractors

Why These Tools Exist

I've been in the building industry for over two decades — as a contractor, a company director, and a developer working across residential and commercial property. One thing that never changed: the need to quickly check a quantity, confirm a mix ratio, or sanity-check a build cost estimate, usually standing on a muddy plot with a phone and no signal to spare. The generic tools that come up in search results are mostly American, use imperial measurements, ignore UK material conventions, and bury the answer three clicks deep. I built this site because I wanted the tools I actually needed, done properly, for the UK market.

Who These Calculators Are For

These calculators are designed for anyone working in or around the UK building industry — from a bricklayer pricing a job on the back of an envelope to a self-builder working out how many bags to order, a developer stress-testing a feasibility, or a homeowner trying to understand what their contractor is talking about. Every calculator uses UK standard measurements, UK material specifications, and figures that reflect how work is actually done on a British building site — not a textbook approximation of one.

Getting Quantities Wrong Costs Money

Under-ordering materials causes programme delays and emergency deliveries at premium prices. Over-ordering means wasted materials, storage problems, and skip costs to remove the surplus. An inaccurate build cost estimate can turn a viable development into a loss-maker before a brick is laid. A skip that's too small adds cost and delay; too large and you've wasted hire fees. These aren't abstract concerns — they're the day-to-day reality of running a building project. Use these tools to get in the right ballpark quickly, then verify with your supplier and contractor before committing to an order.

About These Calculators

All calculators use UK standard measurements and up-to-date 2025 material data. Figures are based on widely accepted industry guidelines including NHBC, BCIS, and supplier specifications. Always add a waste allowance and get quotes from your local suppliers for final quantities — regional pricing varies significantly across the UK.
